The Wakakirri Performance Awards Evening on Monday 18th September at Hamer Hall, Melbourne was brilliant with our school receiving the highest accolade: State Champions – Victorian Story of the Year.
Our students performed to a full house and received a standing ovation when they were announced as the overall school winner in Division 1. Congratulations to the very talented Mrs. Montgomery and Miss Quelch for their hard work and vision to choreograph and prepare our ninety-two students as storytellers to perform a very emotional and moving story based on the tragic Hillsborough disaster.
Watching the students give it their all on the big centre stage filled everyone with immense pride! A very BIG THANK YOU to all staff who have been involved with Wakakirri and our very supportive parents who have assisted with costumes, make up and transporting students. We are extremely proud to have received this award and now eagerly await the National competition results later in October. As they say in Wakakirri language “CHOOKAS” which means good luck!
